HOSPITALITY

Hyatt Regency San Diego Bay

San Diego, CA

VDLA designed site hardscape, planting, irrigation, interior planting design and collaborated on site lighting design. A major goal in site planning was to encourage public access to the existing bayfront Embarcadero, via hotel public walkways. A Magnolia tree allee connects to a festive waterfront courtyard, containing restaurants and specialty shops. Graceful Kentia palms flank the courtyard, while flowering trees accent two outdoor restaurant terraces. The hotel entry court creates a strong base for the 39-story level tower.  A palm grove in a raised triangular ‘wedge’ at Harbor Drive acts as an entry feature for the Hyatt, and contributes a sculptural landscape element to the Harbor Drive street scene.
