Hyatt Hotel – Bayfront Embarcadero
San Diego, CA
VDLA provided site design for hardscape, planting, irrigation and interior planting design services as well as collaboration for site lighting design. A major goal in site planning was to encourage public access to the existing bayfront Embarcadero via hotel public walkways. A Magnolia tree allee' connects to a festive waterfront courtyard, containing restaurants and specialty shops. Graceful Kentia palms flank the courtyard, while flowering trees accent two outdoor restaurant terraces. The hotel entry court creates a strong base for the 39-story level tower. A palm grove in a "raised triangular wedge" at Harbor Drive acts as an entry feature for the Hyatt and contributes a sculptural landscape element to the Harbor Drive street scene.
